I posted about these DIY rain gutter bookshelves when I first started blogging, over 2 year ago. I thought I would revisit this post, since they are still one of my favorite things about Drew’s space. These shelves have also been hung in three different homes, so you know they hold up well!
In Drew’s previous rooms, I used 3 shelves, each 3 feet long. In this house I chose to just use two of them. I found out about this idea way back in 2009 when I read this post from LGN. There, you can find different links and tutorials if you wish to tackle this project. It’s simply three pieces of plastic rain gutter you can purchase at any home improvement store. These are durable, inexpensive, and easy to clean!
I love the industrial look these gutters provide for a little boy’s room, or a toy room, or really any room in which you need storage (these would hold things other than books). I love the color the front facing books add to a space, and the best thing is, Drew has books at his fingertips!
The large D above the shelves was a thrift store find for .99. I painted it the same red I used for this project. You can also find these large letters at Joann Fabric, which is where I bought Kate’s “K” to use for this project. The storage unit underneath is IKEA. Wall paint color is SW Big Chill. How are you storing your books?

I love this idea!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great way to display books! Better than just seeing the spine. The books work as decor when they're facing forward. Thanks so much for sharing! I also love your organized shelf below the bookshelves! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea! I may have to do this soon!
