Painted Pink Headboard

Kate was transitioning to a twin bed several months ago, and I was on the lookout for an inexpensive headboard.  My friend knew I was on the hunt and found one at Goodwill.  Price tag: $10.  Please, and thank you!

In San Antonio, Kate’s room was painted pink, so I decided to leave the bed white.  It was already a little distressed and that didn’t bother me, so I kept it as it was.  This is a picture I took right after it was purchased.

In this current house, Kate’s room is a very light blue/grey.  The headboard was getting lost up against the light walls, and I wanted to incorporate more pink, so I decided on Zany Pink by Sherwin Williams.  It is a mix of coral and pink.

Paint Tip:
Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore sell samples of their paint in quart size containers.  I recommend this if you are doing a small job, but think you will need more paint than the sample sizes that Lowe’s and Home Depot offer.  For a few more dollars, you get a lot more paint.

I ended up going with a Sherwin Williams color because I wanted the larger sample and I wanted a satin finish.  Benjamin Moore samples only come in flat.  Make sure you look for these differences when choosing a paint sample.  Lowe’s sells satin samples and Home Depot sells flat samples.  If you get a sample from Home Depot in flat, you decide you like it and order a gallon in eggshell or satin, the color will look slightly different!  Be careful of your sheens!

Go bold or go home, right?!

I washed it up really well, sanded down a few areas, and painted 3 coats.  I used a small sponge roller on the flat surface and a small brush to touch up the details.  It is such a small surface area that it took no time at all.  Kate said “Wow, my very own pink bed!” and I knew I made the right decision!

Cost of thrifted headboard + quart of paint = $17.00!

I still have a few more projects to share from her room.  You can see previous posts on her Pom Cluster here and Thrifted Chair Makeover here.

  10. I love it! My daughter has a white bed but recently has been asking about a pink bed. I was trying to decided between spray painting it and rolling/brushing it. Pinning this now.
