I tried looking for large prints to put in the frames, but came up empty handed. They are large frames and they were hollow, so I decided to go ahead and frame pieces of fabric.
Because the frames were hollow, I need something to adhere my fabric to. I happened to have a diaper box in my recycling (K still wears one at night), and starting cutting away.
The fabrics are from Hob Lob. I can't recall the price, but I used a 40% off coupon on the more expensive one. I did not need a lot of fabric, so this project was super inexpensive!
I simply wrapped the fabric around the cardboard from the diaper box and hot glued around the corners.
Once the fabric was wrapped, I centered the cardboard on the frame and staple gunned it to the frame.
I then added my own hanging mechanism to the back of each one. These were so easy to attach to the frame (Home Depot).
I love the way the two fabric choices compliment each other and add a pop of color.
I am still debating whether or not to paint the frames. I love the faux bamboo, but not sure if the natural color is working for me. Opinions, please?

I love this! I have been thinking about trying to do this in our den. Great idea!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Great frames and beautiful fabric. They look beautiful the way they are, but I bet the fabric would really pop if you painted them a glossy white or black. If you're daring, the lighter green in the fabric's leaves might work for something with a modern twist. Great idea. Can't wait to see where you put them. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLooks great. My vote would be to paint the frames white or a buttery yellow color. Of course this will depend on where you want to hang them.
ReplyDeleteThey do look good, I love the fabric, but a nice crisp white would be the finishing touch!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fabric choices!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are the best looking bamboo frames I've seen for sure. I like them like they are...but I think they would look great painted too. :)
Neat! This is something I'd love to try...I think white or as someone else said, even green, would make it pop even more! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics and love those pic hangers -- have not seen those before! I am in the 'paint the frames white' camp. Love the detailing of the bamboo shape and a solid color paint with maybe a little distressing would really bring out those details!
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric choice.. :) Great idea!!

I love these! Did you ever paint the frames? I think Navy Gloss would be a great unifier for them...
ReplyDeleteI did repaint these frames in Navy! We must think alike! You can see them at http://lifelovelarson.blogspot.com/2011/05/paint-update-faux-bamboo-frames.html
